On February 6, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting to review the results of ongoing activities aimed at developing the pharmaceutical industry and setting the relevant objectives for the future.
In 2017, the pharmaceutical industry manufactured 1.6 billion packaging units of medicinal products and medical devices, which is 34 percent more than in 2016. However, in value terms, the growth was only 16 percent.
Last year, the industry began to implement 71 investment projects, commissioned 33 facilities worth 148 million dollars, and launched the manufacturing of 76 new products.
The meeting criticized the work of the industry and noted that the progress towards the established objectives was unsatisfactory.
“Most pharmaceutical companies do not use modern technology, and no attention is paid to manufacturing of medicinal substances,” said ShavkatMirziyoyev. “Instead of switching to full-cycle manufacturing, the enterprises are still engaged in importing and packaging of the finished products.”
The meeting noted that only 12 out of 94 enterprises have an international GMP certificate, which ensures the recognition of their products in other countries. The participants of the meeting criticized the fact that, in most of the industry, the manufacturing is limited to single formula medicines.
